I have been working with coach JP since 2019. I was on the verge of retiring and giving up the game in the summer of 2019. I started working with coach JP and he was able to convince me that I still had a lot of room for improvement. We got to work and since then, I have won 4 ATP challenger titles, I have won 2 gold  at the South East Asian Games, and reached my career high ranking of 116 in the world ATP in doubles. Coach JP literally saved my career! I couldn’t have achieved those things without him! He has not only been a phenomenal coach for me, but an incredible mentor and someone I consider to be a big brother to me. I would like to thank Coach JP and coach John for welcoming me like family to the academy and for all their support in my quest to achieve my dreams!

I started working with John and JP when I was 13 years old and had finally made the decision to take my tennis to the next level. I proceeded to work with them until my tennis career had reached its final days at the age of 22. Throughout those almost 10 years of working with the Fruttero brothers I learned so many valuable tennis lessons, but most importantly, I learned so many valuable life lessons. I was taught how to manage my emotions in a healthy way, both John and JP always emphasized that frustration was not the problem, but rather how long it lasted and how you let it affect your decisions moving forward. I learned that trusting yourself is more important than anything else when it comes to both tennis and life, and how crucial it is to trust the time and effort you put in leading up to defining moments. They taught me that sometimes you just don’t have 100% of what you can bring to the court that day, but maximum effort of the 70% you do have is just as admirable. They emphasized the importance of no such thing as failure, only lessons that could help shape you and grow for the future. Many times I walked away from matches or experiences that truly felt like I had failed myself and the people around me. Each conversation was always met with kindness and understanding, highlighting what I could learn and then implementing a plan to continue my forward progression. Most notably I learned how to have fun and not take things so seriously, in tennis there is a fine line between hard work and misery, they taught me that the two did not have to coincide. Every practice was filled with laughter, music, and the thrill of getting better while working towards a greater goal. Every day was a new day, one that I was excited about the prospect of being the best tennis player, and person, that I could be. I am eternally grateful for all the wisdom John and JP were able to give me on our journey together. I’ve truly never felt more care and support from any other coaches I have come across.

My journey with JP started in 2016. My main focus was singles, but would add in doubles to help with certain skill sets. JP asked me to play doubles during an Asian swing and I thought it was a great because he was easy and fun to be around. At the time I had been playing grand slam qualifying and hovering around 200-250 in the rankings. I had some top 100 wins, but my level wasn’t consistent enough to make the jump.
When JP and I practiced together he would give me a few tips here and there. I vividly remember the 2016 Chengdu Challenger, right before the tournament at practice. JP told me a few things and something clicked. I went on to win my first challenger and went on a tear the next couple months.
I had an unlucky break with an injury shortly after. When I came back to compete after 3 months off I thought I could pick up where I left off. I had trouble finding my form for 7 months and my ranking started to drop. I decided to take a few weeks off for a training block in San Jose with JP. We worked out a few kinks and basically just hit a reset button. Got down to business, worked hard, and did all the dirty work. It wasn’t easy, but I started to develop my confidence back. Few weeks later, I won the Taipei University Games and a Challenger in China in back to back weeks!
JP brought a certain energy and calmness that resonated with me. He was great at keeping things light and keeping me focused at the same time. One of the most important things was he was very encouraging and positive. It helped that he was a player at the highest level and had gone through those experiences. I really appreciate everything JP has done for me!

I have nothing but positive things to say about JP and John. I started working with both of them when I was 16 and they both showed an unwavering commitment to improving my game holistically. They spent countless hours on the court with me working through all parts of my game -- mental, technical, and physical -- and it prepared me well for the tournaments leading up to my ultimate recruitment to play college tennis.
Besides being great coaches with phenomenal experience, both JP and John are great people who display a deep level of care. They consistently bring contagious energy and enthusiasm and work with you step-by-step to improve as a tennis player and as a person.
